“Be an SFA Percussionist for a Day”

My name is Dr. Brad Meyer, and I am the Associate Professor of Percussion at Stephen F. Austin State University. The SFA Percussion Studio and I would like to invite any high school percussionist who is looking to become a music performance or music education major in college to spend a day on the SFA campus by participating in our free “Be an SFA Percussionist for a Day” program. Students will get to experience what the typical day of a college percussion music major is like by shadowing a current freshman or sophomore percussion music major.
BE AN SFA PERCUSSIONIST FOR A DAY
This free program allows high school seniors to come to SFA for a day and experience what it is like to be a music major. We can plan for you to take part in the program on any date that is convenient for you (I recommend Mondays as that day would allow you to observe the most ensembles, but any weekday will work as well). The schedule for the program would look something like this:

10:15am – Arrive at the Percussion Studio
-(room 124 of the School of Music, corner of College St. and North St.)
10:25am – Observe a lesson with Dr. Meyer
11am – Lunch with Percussion Mentor
12pm – Student Observes Wind Ensemble
1pm – Observe Steel Band rehearsal in Percussion Studio
2pm – Observe Percussion Ensemble rehearsal in Percussion Studio
2:40pm – Meet and chat with a band director
3pm – Free lesson with Dr. Meyer
3:30pm – Student and Parents talk with Dr. Meyer
4pm – Observe Marching Band rehearsal in the Commuter Parking Lot

FOOTBALL GAME VISIT
Also, we absolutely love to have you and your family attend a football game day for free with so you can experience what it is like to be in the SFA Marching Band. Also, if you have any friends who are considering becoming music majors, we would be happy to have them (and their families) join you for the game day visit.
